A memorable trip in the south of Spain We went to Andalucia in September 2000. We arrived in Malaga airport where we picked up our rental car, then headed for the highway. We had pre-booked accommodation mostly at the various paradors wherever they were available - these were really gorgeous, historical sites converted into hotels.
During our two weeks there, we made made our way from Malaga and went along the following route:
Ronda - Arcos de la frontera - Jerez de la frontera - Cadiz - Seville - Carmona - Cordoba - Granada - Marbella.
September is a stiflingly hot season to be driving around the rugged, rocky hills and plains of Andalucia, so be prepared!
I think my favourite place of all was Cordoba, it is such a pretty little town. I really want to go back in the springtime to see the town’s flowers in full-bloom.
What I remember most of Andalucia (apart from the heat) is the dramatic landscape, the interesting food, people’s houses (intricate doors – esp. in Ronda, and patios) and the fascinating Moorish architecture. Oh, and how we learnt not to expect restaurants to be open by 8pm and how shops close from 1pm to 5pm in some places! |
