Zermatt is my kind of town

Zermatt in the south of Switzerland is within easy reach of Milan where I live. It took us less than 3 hours to drive to the town of Tasch where all cars had to be left, passing through the Simplon Pass, Brig and Visp. From the car park in Tasch we took a taxi to Zermatt (CHF30 for two people), about a 10 minute drive to a pick-up point in Zermatt, where the hotel transport came to get us.

I didn't take as many photos of the town and the skifields as I would have liked. I was learning to ski, you see, and concentrating on staying alive!!

Our second trip to Zermatt was in August 2003 at the height of summer. We planned to do some hiking and hiked we did... but we didn't expect how HOT it would be even at 3000 metres!!

I think I preferred Zermatt in the winter time to be honest. I think the whole town is geared for the winter season and summer visitors are "nice to have"s - although it is still a great place to visit in the summer time.

Pros and Cons

Pros:Quiet and efficient little town
Cons:Too bad if you don't like heights!
In a nutshell:Locals say it's the best ski resort in the world, I believe them!

Have been here a couple times but never in the snow in town. It was fun to read your experiences with skiing. You'll be an expert skier in short time.
