Val D'Aosta - Paradise for Nature Lovers

by sierralyndon - last update: Jun 10, 2003

Tucked away in the top left-hand corner of Italy

The Val D'Aosta is the last Italian region you'll pass through before heading into the Mont Blanc tunnel on the way to France. It is a tiny politically semi-autonomous region and the people here, besides speaking Italian and the local dialect of course, are typically well-versed in French.

Its location in the Alps means that there is an abundance of mountain activities to participate in. It has many popular skiing resorts such as Courmayeur.

In the summer time, the Gran Paradiso National Park in the summer timeoffers the visitor endless hiking / walking opportunities. What's more it is heaven for people like me who love spotting wild animals.

From Milan where we live, it takes less than 2 hours by car to get to the last outpost before hitting the Mont Blanc tunnel.

We have been there many times, and will definitely visit many more times. So I will be filling these pages up with more photos and info as we go along...

Ah - great hiking possibilities :-)) I am still thinking between NE Piemonte and Aosta, but just from teks, wildlife and villages, Aosta looks very inviting :-))
