Osteria di Mezzo, Salo': Fabulous, fabulous food

  • Restaurant Name: Osteria di Mezzo, Salo'

This little osteria was tucked away in one of the side roads of Salo', on the western shore of Lake Garda. It was more of a restaurant actually, very refined surroundings, with a large selection of wine, but surprisingly at quite normal prices. Food is of the goose liver paté variety, not abundant, but the quality was exceptional.

Favorite Dish: The baccala' and polent. I don't usually like this salted fish dish, but this was really really good. Plus the polenta they cook is made from flour from wheat that the restaurant owner grows himself (as far as I understood from an overheard conversation).

La Berlera: Dining in a cave?
  • Tip Rating: [Not enough ratings yet]
  • Satisfaction:
  • Restaurant Name: La Berlera

La Berlera is one of those whacky places that you just have to go to. It is almost impossible to get to without a car, and even with a car, it's hidden away on some country road where you'll need to get very specific directions from the restaurant itself.

La Berlera is located in a 4-storey medieval building, and looks like it was carved out the side of a cliff! The restaurant is on the ground floor and you're practically dining in a cave.

It was very quiet the night we were there, and many of the items on the menu were unavailable. So we were not too impressed by that and had some items that we weren't wild about, though they were quite good anyway.

The ambience is what you'd go for here, I guess. Well worth a visit.

Wow, Kaz, the winter picture of this Garda page is from one of my favorite spots.... The balcony over the Torri harbour (a few meters before, in fact)....
