Saudade of Lisbon: this is what I had when I got back. Lisbon surely got a grip on me! It is above all charming: the quaint cobbled streets, the escadinhas (stairs) that just don’t seem to end, the miradouros (viewpoints), the fado, … it seems that time stood still in the districts of Alfama and Mouraria.
And then you have the complete opposite when going to Parque das Naçoes: when visiting the futuristic buildings of the Expo 98 it seems that you’re in a complete other city!
In between there are districts like Baixa and Chiado, where everyday life goes by.
Don’t forget to check out Lisbon’s naval history and maritime discoveries in Belém! And when you get there, you HAVE to try the famous Pasteis de Belém! They are truly delicious!! |
