What about Bird Watching the relatively new tourist trend in Uganda? With its over 1000 species, the country has established itself as leading inhabitant of the largest number of rare birds in the world. Bird watching is concentrated on an area of favorable size making it convenient to tour all species in good time. Top destinations lie in the Southwest. Alone the second largest National park of Uganda, Queen Elizabeth National Park homes a total of over 500 avian species on its 1,978 Km2. The park stretches from the crater-dotted foothills of the Rwenzori range in the north, along the shores of Lake Edward, to Ishasha River in the south. Among others the Shoebill can be seen here as well as Martial eagle, Black rumped Buttonquail, African skimmer and Papyrus canary.
To ease bird watching, most game Lodges and Camps in Uganda have expert Guides who are skilled bird spotters and are always happy to take you on walks or drives through the parks. Other spots include Bwindi Impenetrable forest with over 300 species, Entebbe Botanical gardens as well as the city Kampala.
Directions: Southwestern Uganda
Bwindi Impenetrable National Park
Experience Ugandas most fascinating wildlife, namely half of the world´s surviving mountain Gorillas in Bwindi national park. I learnt a lot about this park as i proofread my sister´s thesis about Eco-tourism in Uganda with regard to Bwindi. Its very impressing how this goal is being observed: 6 visitors per Gorilla group a day, all above 15 yrs, no obvious illness, no flash photography.
Be sure to book your tracking ticket in advance at UWA (Uganda Wildlife Authority).
With over 300 Bwindi counts as Ugandas second spot for Bird Watching. Of the 346 bird species recorded at Bwindi, eight occur no where else in East Africa and 23 out of the 29 Albertine species are endemic.

Its most interesting feature is its collection of traditional musical instruments, which you're allowed to play. Pray that it will have been renovated when you visit, then it will be a real stunning feature.

Jinja is the second largest urban center in Uganda and lies 40 KM away from Kampala on the shores of Lake Victoria. Activities in Jinja are centered on the Nile and Lake Victoria. These include white water rafting, Canoing, fishing but also just watching the nile as it flows elegantly. The most attractive part of Jinja is the source of River Nile. At this point left is a visible distinction between L. Victorian waters and those of the R. Nile.
