Cheroots

You will see quite a few people smoking the native Burmese cigar, called a Cheroot. Much more affordable than say your run of the mill Cubano Romeo and Juliet Churchills. ($0.30 USD vs. $400.00 USD a box...)

Still they are surprisingly smokable, as you can see this orange sales lady enjoying one down at the market...

Raj Remnants...

Every once in a while, you will come across remnants of the colonial past here in Burma.

Here is a good example: Two old silver coins (dated 1918 and 1920) that we happened across in Kengtung, Burma. Both coins bear the image of King George V, and were minted in India during the colonial period there.

Since both India and Burma were administered under the British Raj, it would seem that Indian Rupees were in circulation in Burma at that time....
