Favorite Thing: Lion mummies, anyone ???

Naah, not really, I checked, this one is made of granite... Probably was the doorkeeper at some Roman fort here in Alexandria long ago...

Tho' I'm sure if you scout around you will find some pickled lions somewhere about...

Favorite Thing: You see these things a lot in the Nile delta region, this particular one is about half way on the road between Cairo and Alexandria.

Hmmmm.... What could it be.... Giant mummified bee hives perhaps ?? As it turns out, nothing so exotic, it is just the local Egyptian variant of a pigeon house....

Favorite Thing: In Egypt you will see these type of posters all about: pictures of Egyptian President Hosni Mubark with some historical, scenic or otherwise noteworthy image in the back ground...

I dont know, it may just be me, but he sure has the visage, such that I do not believe that he would look so out of place in one of the three Hollywood Godfather movies..... Hosni Corleone ???

Favorite Thing: The cornerstone of the Egyptian social scene would appear to be the local corner cafe well stocked with hubble bubble pipes.

Men gather here at all hours of the day (and night) to discuss current issues of the day.

if you get the chance, try the pipe, its not bad, a pretty mild aromic tastes... (and it is rather enjoyable to sit in a cafe and watch the locals mill by...)

Favorite Thing: It is said than when you visit Alexandria, you must try the fresh fish on the riverfront. And you know how it is.... If you must, then you must....

And so I did... I have already all over Egypt for about 10 days at that point, and figured that my stomach was impervious to their food. The famous fish of Alexandria begged to differ however.

I didnt really get falling-down food poisoned sick, though I was feeling the effects for a few days there after. (I was scheduled to go diving 2 days there after in Sharm, and it took all I had to keep that appointment.)

Favorite Thing: The winding, narrow streets of Alexandria really look like it would be challenge to navigate if one were to try to drive them selves. Especially when you throw street cars, and scads of them yellow and black taxis into the mix.

The area around Pompey's Pillar and the Catacombs looks particularly challenging. (with big tour buses thrown into the local mix of traffic on quite narrow alleys...)
