The city of Alexander the Great and Cleopatra is certainly worth a side trip from Cairo. Located about 200 kilometers north-west of Cairo, it sits just west of the Nile delta on the Mediterranean Sea.

The most interesting things to do out here include the underground Roman Catacombs, the Graeco-Roman museum, and also enjoying the Mediterranean ocean breeze along the waterfront....

Although the city's name certainly conjures up images, there is not so much left here that is still intact from its glory days...

Someday though, they will find Alexander's tomb ( who is said to be buried here), and start running dive trips out to Cleo's Palace, which is believed to be out in the harbor underwater. I think then you will be better able to connect the modern city to it's past glory...
