"CAPE DISAPPOINTMENT - FAR FROM IT!" Cape Disappointment State Park by mtncorg

Cape Disappointment was given its name by British trader John Meares in 1788 when he mistook the entrance of the Columbia River - which he was searching for - for just another coastal bay. The State Park here is Washington’s answer to Fort Stevens on the south side of the river. While the park is smaller, it makes up for it with its magnificent headlands - Cape Disappointment and North Head. Along with Fort Stevens and Fort Columbia armament was placed here to defend the river mouth starting with the Civil War. Also, along with those other two sites, Cape Disappointment is one of the twelve separate sites that make up the new Lewis and Clark National Historic Park. There is plenty of history to discover within the park, but the natural beauty will astound you, as well. On a warm summer day - OK, there aren’t too may of those, so we will just say a sunny day! - it is hard to find a finer place to sit out and watch the show at the Columbia River mouth than from the Cape Disappointment Lighthouse.

Considering the fact that I have never visited this part of the U.S., I am always intrigued to read about some remote location along the west coast.

I have to say that this is one of your more "DISAPPOINTING" pages, Mark. :) Just playing with the name, you're always a good read.
