About 25 miles east of Salem and 50 miles south of Portland, along the foothills of the Cascades lies this very popular state park hidden away in the rain forest. The main attraction is the Trail of Ten Falls which lie on the north and south forks of Silver Creek. Deep within rain forested gorges, waters tumble over basaltic cliffs in spectacular fashion.
Silver Creek Falls is not as well known to outsiders as the waterfalls of the Columbia River Gorge to the east of Portland, but they are well known to locals who on summer weekends mob the park and trails. The trail is about 7 miles long and is a very pleasant diversion when not too crowded.
- Pros:Glorious waterfalls deep within rain forested canyons
- Cons:Weekend crowds

Happy Birthday, Mark, and greetings from Frankfurt am Main. Silver Falls State Park sounds like a great place for short hikes, except on days when it is really crowded.
Except for the crowds, this is a thoroughly enjoyable place. I think the problem with the dogs on the trails has to do with those who irresponsibly use the longer leashes and make a tripping hazard out of them.
I loved camping here. Too bad you little corgie could not hike the ten falls trails.
A great place right in your own backyard, you're lucky. Loved camping here. Nice to see falls when flowing more than when we were there in summer.
Great work on this page Mark, I'll be headed down that way in July i hope it's all that i'm expecting!
Hello from Seattle! Oregon has some of the most beautiful waterfalls. Doesn't mtncorgie's little legs ever tire out?
Poor little mtncorgie didn't get to see the falls with you? Whaa!
