Home built according to Natural Law principles
Maharishi Vedic City is arranged and built according to Maharishi Sthapatya Veda architectural principles as adapted by the Maharishi Mahesh Yogi. The principles are grounded in the philosophies of ancient India, Southeast Asia, China, Japan, Korea and Moorish Spain. Sounding a lot like Feng Shui – a traditional Chinese system attempting to meld human and cosmic aspirations together – Vedic architects say the two systems are actually quite different. With Vedic-inspired homes, the orientations are tantamount: entries face east and the first rays of the sun; kitchens are flooded with natural sunlight, so are on the south side. Homes are designed so ‘that the different energies of the sun correspond to the specific function and activity for each room. Then Natural Law supports every aspect of our daily activity.’
Here in Maharishi Vedic City, you will find many homes built, and being built. Many more lots are for sale. It is a quiet area, the only noise coming from the new construction. From the outside, the homes appear to be moderately expensive – according to Maharishi Global Construction; ‘most clients … have found it somewhat more expensive to build according to Maharishi Sthapatya Veda design than with similar standard construction.’
It should be noted that Maharishi Sthapatya Veda design can be combined with any architectural style or building system and a Vedic house can be built almost anywhere. Just check in at vedahouse.com and discover how you can build your next home to ‘harness the full potential of Natural Law’ with the help of the Maharishi Sthapatya Veda Consultation Service.
One of the Golden Domes of Pure Knowledge
Not in Maharishi Vedic City but nearby Fairfield, Iowa, the Maharishi University of Management – MUM – occupies a campus of some 282 acres. Prior to the transfer of MUM from its former home in Santa Barbara, California, in 1974, the campus was home to the Presbyterian-oriented Parsons College, which dated back to the 1870’s. Parsons had about 300-400 students until the 1960’s when academic standards were drastically lowered enabling thousands of academically-suspect young men to flood the campus seeking student deferments from the military draft and party times. Loss of accreditation and finally bankruptcy – in 1973 – followed. The MUM offers several standard academic tracks and a few not-so-standard tracks.
Besides offering educational venues, there are two large golden domes – gender-segregated – within which people have the opportunity to come together and meditate twice a day. The goal is yogic flying in which the proper mediation can lift people off the ground. The Maharishi – completely enlightened – is presumed to be able to hover indefinitely. The rest of us can only hope for an occasional hop in the proscribed lotus position. War would come to an end, says the Maharishi – a former physicist before his present path – if the square root of 1% of the World’s population could be brought together to meditate at one time.

Flag of the Global Country outside the Mansion
Built originally as a hotel – in accordance with proper Vedic architectural standards – the Mansion now serves as the Capital of the Global Country of World Peace. The Global Country was founded in October 2000 by Maharishi Mahesh yogi with the Constitution of the Universe – Total Natural Law – as its cornerstone. There is an anthem, a flag, a currency and a ruler – His Majesty Raja Nader Raam. The Maharishi proclaimed here to be ‘the physical structure of the Capital of the Universe, the physical structure of the Capital Heaven Earth, the administrative center of the Cosmic Administrator of the Universe. It is a very beautiful time in the evolution of the history of man, also in the history of scientific pursuit: celebrating the return of Raam in the Capital.’
The Global Country of World Peace is not meant to be a sovereign nation even though it has its own ruler, currency and ministerial cabinet. John Hagelin – former Natural Law US Presidential candidate, professor at nearby Maharishi University of Management and the Global Country’s Minister of Science and Technology says, ‘The government of any country is not going to object to having a supporting organization in the country. Just like the United Nations exists in New York to provide support to every country, the Global Country of World Peace will not usurp the responsibility of government.’
An interesting aside is that in 2001, the MUM offered Surinam a $1.3 billion dollar investment over three years in return for a 3500-hectare/8645 acre chunk of rural land where a sovereign Global Country of World Peace could be based. Several other Third World countries have been approached as well, according to CNN reporters.
