Bridgeport Valley from atop the Matterhorn

Bridgeport is a little town on US route 395 that is the county seat for the underpopulated county of Mono in eastern California. The city is a hub of acitivity in the summer because of travellers making their way north and south along 395. There are a number of small motels and restaurants at which someone can stop and venture forth from.

The little valley that the town sits is is a pretty enough valley, lots of agriculture and ranching. There is a nearby reservoir that offers fishing and boating. What brings many people is the nearby ghost town of Bodie. Also, the part of the Sierra Nevada range that towers over the SW part of the valley, the Sawtooth Range. A large vacation area has developed at the base of the range next to the Twin Lakes in Mono Village where there is a private campground.

The Sawtooths mark the northern boundary of the Yosemite National Park. There ae a couple of entry points into the northern areas of the park for the intrepid tourist. The norhtern areas are far away from roads so you will have solitude.

Great photos! I meant to stop at Bodie but didn't have time. Have a feeling I'll be visiting the Sierras again though. :)
