Sports Travel: HIKING - WHAT THE ROCKIES ARE ALL ABOUT!

The hikes that await you in the Canadian Rockies are some of the World’s best. Imagine a more primeval version of the Alps without cows and trams going up every other mountain. These peaks are some of the most magnificent that I have ever had the opportunity to wander among. I am not one to make lists of ‘bests’ but if I did, I would have to include these peaks - both in Alberta and British Columbia. The problem with lists is that I always am amazed at what else I discover, but rest assured - the Canadian Rockies are magnificent. As such, it is kind of amazing driving north through the vast emptiness of Montana, the crowds you finally come upon. The more popular backcountry trails are well-known. Like in National Parks south of the border, you need to try and reserve backcountry campsites before getting here. For those not going backcountry, there are many grand day tours that you can take - some crowded, some lonely.

Equipment: Boots, Ten essentials, and the guidebook, 'Don't Waste your Time in the Canadian Rcokies' at teh website below.

Amazing photos! I would give all of these hikes four boots. Unlike the hike we just took near Walla Walla, which I would give maybe 3 toes. Of course, the wines there get 4 cork screws.

WOW! Awesome pics. I'm so jealous. I have relatives in Alberta...I should go one of these days. It's beautiful. Hope all is well.

Wonderful, but looks like lots of walking, eh? I got a book about heli-hiking from someone who was heli-skiing in the Northern Selkirks a week ago - I loose my breath even while watching the videos!
