VIRGINIA - OLD DOMINION GEMS

Confederate Cemetery at Fredericksburg
Virginia is a great State to visit for not only its magnificent role in American history, as the State features some of the prettiest natural regions to be found in the Eastern U.S.. But history first. The State was one of the earliest sites of European settlement in what is today the U.S. - Jamestown celebrates its 400th year in 2007. The State has provided more Presidents than any other State. In Virginia, the American Revolution reached its climax with the surrender of Lord Cornwallis’ army at Yorktown. The State was the scene for many of the campaigns and battles - from the beginning at Manassas to the end four bloody years later at Appomattox - of the tragic American Civil War, which devastated the landscape, culture and economy. Geographically, the State offers several distinct regions - both natural and cultural. Traveling from one of the State to the other is like traveling from one World to another and another - sometimes in a very subtle fashion and sometimes in ways much more abrupt. The Old Dominion State offers and delivers a full plate for the potential visitor.
