For many travelers, Cape Town is South Africa. It certainly is a nice place to start your South African explorations from. In history, Cape Town was South Africa, at least from a Euro-centric point of view. Much like other metropolitan areas in South Africa, Cape Town is a mélange of peoples and cultures that invite further investigation. But beyond the human factor here, Cape Town has been described by many as the most beautiful city in the World and this is where Cape Town's unique natural setting comes into play. Table Mountain and the Atlantic Ocean dominate. The setting is indeed magnificent and as with others, it is what drew me here. Most of my tips will be devoted to a few of the great walking opportunities open to one and all here. |

I never realized until now, that you visited the city where I grew up. Little Girl would have loved the mountains. I lived at the foot of Table Mountain. | Bwana_Brown Thu May 10, 2007 19:27 UTC A fantastic account of the hiking possibilities surrounding Cape Town! Beautiful descriptions of the landscape, especially since I did not know Table Mountain had several sections. Great info on the slavery days too! |
