The ruins of Tlos were my favorite among those I visited in Lycia. Lycian, Roman, Byzantine and Ottoman civilizations have all left their marks. From the top of the castle ruins you have a magnificent view out over the length of the Xanthos Valley on one side and up into the snow capped Akdað – Taurus Mountains on the other side. You reach the site going up a steep small paved road which pushes up a canyon giving you a great look at many of the tombs carved into the cliffs lying below the acropolis/castle. There is a group of tourist facilities where you can buy water, beer or something to eat next to the car park across from the entrance ticket office. Sometimes you can find Tlos on the schedule for day tours otherwise you will need you own vehicle to get here as there is no scheduled bus that runs at all close to here.
