Croatia is a boomerang of a country, extending from the Danube in the east, the Istria in the west, and far to the south to Dubrovnik. The main attraction here is the long Dalmatian coastline. This is one of the main vacation areas for Europe.
In my trip here in 2002, I was originally just going to go climb in Slovenia, but the guidebooks I kept reading about Slovenia said that all of the Slovenes take there vacations in Croatia! So, I took their advice.
There is scenic beauty, glorious history, wonderful food and drink, plus opportunities for water sports galore.
There is plenty more to see in Croatia, if you get off the beach. Zagreb has a long history and remains the cultural heart of the country. The countryside of Istria is another side that along with most of the Slavonian east, remains 'off-the-beaten-track'. The mountains of Paklenica and the lakes of Plitvice are gems hidden away.
And then, way to the south, there is this place called "Dubrovnik"..... |

mircaskirca Fri Aug 15, 2008 19:49 UTC Zdravo Mark :) Wow, Kornati Islands - loved them! Agree, next time... next stop... should be Vis and Hvar, or even Mljet which is in fact a National Park and very beautiful. | rhodyrob Mon Jul 24, 2006 23:29 UTC I plan to drive from Split to Dubrovnik, passing thru the Neum corridor. Do I need a visa to get thru or is my US passport enough? One travel guide warned of problems, but didn't make clear what is required. | Sininen Fri Jul 7, 2006 19:35 UTC Great detailed tips and wonderful photos. i will visit Croatia in September. Happy birthday from Finland! | Karolina01 Wed Jul 5, 2006 07:27 UTC Also in Macedonia we say ZDRAVO for hello. Nice page about Croatia. |
