Located on the site of an old ski resort, the concentration camp of Le Struthof – KL Natzwiller – sits atop the Vosges Mountains with great views to the north towards the Donon and the Rocher de Mutzig. Situated at almost 1000 meters high, the site is gorgeous on a warm spring day. Almost 52,000 people from all over Europe were deported to this camp or one of its annexes. The camp got its start in 1941 and lasted over three years in which time 22,000 people died. Four of the buildings remain serving as a memorial to the camp’s victims. Entrance fee is 5 Euros for most. For opening hours, see Struthof.
