"RIVERVIEW,FLORIDA" Riverview by 1957lin

Riverview Travel Guide: 12 reviews and 0 photos

Once a sleepy cow town, Riverview has grown into a popular suburb. Still retaining it's small town charm on the banks of the river the Alafia "ALA-fI". Don't look for any high-tech attractions here, even if Busch Gardens, The Florida Aquarium & other type venues are less than 30 minutes away. The appeal is quite simple and laid back.

The most popular events in town center around the river. Boating, fishing,or exploring the back waters by canoe are some of the most popular activities .You may rent a boat at Alafia Marine & Bait Store. Fish on the river, or take a trek to Pine Key(Island) in the bay, for a picnic with the kids. Be sure that you bring beach shoes, because it's very shelly. If you go on a weekend head out early, or you won't have much space to
anchor. Our family visited the Island often 30 years ago. The secret's out folks. Its a fun place to see & explore. No facilites here, so bring your survival gear.

A cool discovery is the Alafia spring, located about 1/4 mile east of the Civic Center park boat ramp. It's only access is by boat.Cool fresh water percolates into the river here and is a popular swimming hole for the locals on a hot summers day.

Riverview High
Considered by many to be one of the best in Hillsborough County, the "Sharks" have had several respectable football seasons. Also worth mentoning, some impressive GPA's. The Girls Softball team took the State Championship tittle in 2002. A good balance is here of academics and sports. It has been said that the the SHARKS are the biggest thing to happen in Riverview,
since ,.... well since....the river.

It wouldn't be fair to give Riverview High all the credit for creating it all. There are some very dedicated parents in our community who volunteer
to coach sports in our youth leauges. Most teachers in the area schools have been talented educators for our children. There are many fine Churches in our area that
take an active interest in our youth. Thanks so much for investing your time in our children.

Snowbirds make Riverview's population swell a bit in winter. There are several 55+ communities that delight the AARP Crowd. The handy grocery shopping and other sundries needed to modern life are available close-in. The Mall is only a few minutes away, in Brandon if need be.

Accommodations:
2 RV parks Hidden River & Alafia RV Resort, both sport river recreation, and economical accommodation.

1 Motel in town. Bianchi's Motel is family owned & operated. It's clean, well maintained & has a pool. The original Mom & Pop comfy look, like the motels you stayed in years ago on those family road trips.

Restaurants:
No doubt that the mom & pops have the best home cooked meals at fair prices.
Popular stops are Ruth's Steakhouse, and Riverview Sandwich shop for breakfast.
ABC Pizza, Beef O Brady's, or Kazbors for Lunch & Dinner.

More high end eateries & accomodations are in Brandon, but you'd be missing the charm & hospitality of our town that has been maintained throughout the years.

Riverview has a growing residential community, and many newer subdivisions are building rapidly; This, much to the dismay to the established locals. The wheels of progess continue to turn dispite the vocal disappoval of residents. Still, many calm and quaint older neigborhoods still manage to survive in the shadows. Many older homes have huge lots and appeal to those in need space and solitude. The housing market here is still affordable by most standards.

The 33569 zip code is large,
due to the past history of farms and ranches,
so here is a quick guide to what are considered
to be the sections of our town:

Let's begin in the center.
This would include 301 extending eastward to the major large neighborhoods of Boyette Springs,Riverglen, Lakes of Christina, Waterford & Riverview High.
This area is commonly referred to as "Boyette".
Just east of Boyette is Fishhawk Ranch

a few miles south:
on 301,the neighborhoods of Summerfield and South Point.
This area is commonly referred to as "East Bay or Summerfield".

The Northside has had somewhat of an identity crisis.
Historicaly Riverview was considered to begin once you
crossed Bloomingdale Ave on 301 South.
Thanks to the infulence of Brandon & Bloomingdale.
(It's confusing I know)
It has all sorts of commonly known names.
"West-Bloomingdale" "South-Brandon"& "Providence"
(I personally Like "North Riverview" it's less confusing.)
Here you will find the neigborhoods:
The Pavillion, Bloomingdale Hills,
Providence Ridge, and Lake St. Charles.

Oh, Well I hope I cleared everything up for you.
Yes,I Know. I may have left some of your neighborhoods
out. Please understand there is not enough space to
list every one.

The attraction to Riverview Community is simple. Small town life, convience to the city.

As of Summer 2006, sad-to-say, but the Bianchi is no longer open for business. A great loss for this community! We're growing too quick.
