My visit to Beijing was part of an almost whistlestop tour of China but we did spend a few days here before and after a trip down to Xian. Oneabiding memory of Bejing will always be the weather. we arrived and it was very mild - everybody took off their jackets and walked around in short sleeved shrts (or whatever).
However overnight the wind direction changed and now it came from Siberia over the Gobi Desert and the next day it was down to -6C.

Very nice page. Did u try a meal at Hutong? I saw a documentary on TV when in Dalian abt them. They were amazed at the curiosity of western tourists.

Interesting warning about your Tiananmen Square encounter. Did they confiscate your film and is that why you don't have a photo of the protest?
I applied for a job in Beijing at the US Embassy, although I have other travel plans at the moment I thought it would be great if I got it and could live in this great city for a while.
