My holiday in Egypt took was a cruise up the Nile from Luxor to Aswan, then back to Luxor by coach to spend a few days in Luxor doing my own thing. This included a day trip by air to Cairo to see the Pyramids and the Egyptian Museum.

Just before the end of my holiday the massacre of mainly Swiss tourists took place at the Temple of Hatshepsut on the West Bank. At the time I was wandering around Karnak Temple on the East Bank. Guess I'd chosen the right temple to visit. After this Luxor was basically closed down and most tourists sent home by their holiday companies. As I was just about at the end of my vacation it didn't affect the length of it, but as you can imagine it was not a good way to end a vacation. The reaction of the local people in Luxor was total horror, as they are among the friendliest and nicest people you could ever meet. Basically it was also wiping out their livelihood.
