So far - best place in USA

by pmarshuk - last update: Mar 5, 2003

While I was working in San Jose I came up to San Francisco quite a few times so my view of the city is limited to a few short visits. Still during those it left me with an impression of a city with a beatiful location and a great 'joi de vivre'.
Unfortunately my time here was a few years ago and all my photos are non digital so you will have to wait until I get a scanner to get some pics in here.
I would suggest that any visitor spends as little time as possible around the Fisherman's Wharf area as it is just too touristy. In fact one evening when I was in a restaurant on Pier 39 I'm sure the only Americans in the place were the 2 girls I was with (1 from New York and 1 from Detroit). The vast majority of the others seemed to be Brits(including myself of course).

Sonoma township was really lovely & the valley very scenic too, but I equally enjoyed the Napa, but in a different way. San Francisco is my fave U.S. city too, but Chicago & Seattle run a close second. N.Y. is pretty special too!

Very nice page. I agree with you about Sonoma. I prefer it to Napa. Jeannette

Interesting views on Sonoma vs Napa.. I missed both. Being a lover of Asia, I loved Chinatown. What a shame you missed the invite to the party...lol My favourite US city.
