Archeologists Paradise

Detail at the Temple of Hatshepsut
Not just for archeologists but anybody slightly interested in history or old civilisations. Luxor is on the east bank of the Nile across from the famous West Bank with the Valley of the Kings, The Temple of Hatshepsut and numerous other wonders. To the north of Luxor is the fabulous Temple of Karnak. In ancient times Luxor was also known as Thebes of a Thousand Gates, named such by Homer.
Not sure if it was an exception, but I was there towards the end of November and according to the thermometer in the hotel it was around 34C most days.
There was however one awful experience while I was there. In November 1997 there was a terrorist attack on a group of tourists at the Temple of Hatshepsut and a large number were killed. This basically shut down the whole tourst industry for a while and we were all sent home. I was almost at the end of my visit so personally I didn't miss much, but some folks who had just arrived were sent straight home.
At the time of the attack I was wandering around Karnak Temple on the other side of the Nile so didn't know anything about it until I got back to my hotel and found the whole of Luxor had become an armed camp. I guess I was lucky that the terrorists hadn't chosen to attack Karnak instead.
