Tourist Trap: Floating Market in Thonburi

In April 2003 I stopped off in Bangkok on my way back from Cambodia and was given a klong tour as part of my package at the hotel. One of the stops on the tour was at a floating market. Except that it doesn't exist anymore. Because of the crowding etc on the klong, the floating market has moved to way outside Bangkok and all that's left are stalls bult on pontoons over the klongs. Very disappointing.

Tourist Trap: Snake Farm

Another stop on the klong tour was to the snake farm in Thonburi. Again what a disappointment. The animals there did not look to well cared for and the show seemed to be a huge expolitation of the snakes. If you are going to tour the klongs do what I did the first time. Hire a long tail and organise your own itinary.
