| Bangkok from the Golden Mount |
Known to the Thai's as Krung Thep, the City of Angels, Bangkok is one of the most exciting cities in the world (or at least that I have visited). It is a city of enormous contrasts : The rich in their Mecedes and BMWs and the beggars along the Sukhumvit Road. The modern glass and concrete towers and old temples and palaces. I once heard on a television program someone describe his first impression of Sukhumvit Road as like something from the film Bladerunner. And with the Skytrain overhead, the stalls and crowds along the sidewalks and the solid traffic I can see what he means. Unlike many capital cities, the sights of Bangkok are quite spread out so this isn't a city for a lot of walking, unless you have plenty of time so you can stop off frequently to get out of the heat and traffic fumes. |
| | Next Visit I've now been here several times . What amazed me between my first visit in November 2002 and my next one in April 2003 was how many buildings had been torn down along the stretch of Sukhumvit near my hotels (near Nana BTS station). Luckily the constants of beautiful friendly people and the gorgeous food remained. So did the high temperatures and humidity. Been back again in May 2004 and have lots of new pic from Vimanmek Mansion, Jim Thomson House and trip to Kanchanaburi to add, as well as pics from the latest VT meet. |
| | VT Meets Going through Bangkok again, this time on my way to Vietnam. Met up with a great crowd of VT'ers for dinner at Lemongrass. Many thanks to Yen for organising the meet and for Albert, Winston, Marina, Patt, Nim and Neng for a great evening.
Back againn for a few days in May 2004. Another VT meeting - this time at Foodloft in Central Chidlom. Thanks to Patt (pattayraj) for organising and to Peak (thelittlevoice), her friend Christer, Neng(dora_heta), Nim(hana_aya), Mei Leng(dragonml), Shirly(shirlyz) and Mehala(mehala) for making it such a nice evening.. I'll get some pictures up as soon as I get round to getting them developed.
Bangkok has become a habiit as I am now planning my 9th visit there in April 2006 |
