It's a hard life being a brummie... nationally ridiculed, we're a generally misunderstood breed (I suppose the accent doesn't help), but with such lavish claims as "Birmingham has more miles of canal than Venice" and the penchant our City Council seems to have to try and make Birmingham something it isn't, is it any surprise? That said, you ask anyone in the UK about Birmingham and the chances are they will tell you tales of some horribly industrial city with little or nothing to offer. That's where they're wrong!

I have to say that I've learnt a lot about Birmingham from the world trip that Georgie and I did. Part through reading and prt through meeting people. Firstly, I found out that my favourite travel writer was brought up in Birmingham (Bruce Chatwin - quite specifically, I used to hang around with a cousin of his without knowing it!) and secondly, Birmingham seems to be quite famous for a children's show called "Brum"... the amount of people who didn't realise that "Brum" was set in Birmingham is just not funny.
