If you are coming from the Lexington, KY area, then Slade is the last town you'll stop at before reaching the Red River Gorge state park. It is technically a part of the Daniel Boone National Forest, but it is it's own natural wonder.
If you happen to camp here, be certain to set your tent up during the daytime and don't go walking in the dark without a flashlight. Each year, a few drunk and/or foolish people fall off the edge of the gorge to their deaths. Common sense is all that is required to reamin safe.
Hike the trails, climb, camp and enjoy the natural beauty of this forest area. |
