I come here 3 times in the last years. I ever go to the same residence and every time i open my window at the morning i remain breathless!!! Just admire the magnificent Dolomiti and the "pale di san martino". I could spend the day photographing it again again and again.
The beautiful thing is that in all the San Martino town you can admire this show. You can sit into a bar to drink something and see the change of the colour on the mountains while the sun go down.
The area of San Martino offers you lots to do even if you don't sky (i'm trying to learn but..), so there are lots of small and beautiful town that you can visit in all the area of "Valle di Primiero".
The bad thing is that San Martino is very touristic and expensive, so if you want to buy things i suggest that you move in the towns around and not in san martino. Except this...it's a place where i'd like to live!!
i come here in both seasons. I admit that during summer i was not lucky with the weather 'couse it was very raining. If you like trekking there are amazing places where you can go during summer and it's easy to reach the places (you don't need a guide). the fields around are amazing but you'll spend lots of time watching the Dolomiti:-)
During winter..well if you sky that's ok. But if you don't like me, there are lots of things to do anyway like nord walking or go in some amazing spa and beauty center for relax.
So at the end...both periods are great for visit this area, just it's different the scenario and the things to do. I suggest to try both 'couse both are amazing in their own way
A thing i can say after i come in this area for some years is that i'm not able to go to sauna or to a spa or to a turkish bath in any other place. Here it's totally different from the rest of italy (i live in Tuscany) and there is culture of this kind of wellness that i found just in Germany or in Austria.
Obiuvsly the big difference is that here you can (but you 'd do) sauna and turkish bath naked in mixed place. I agree totally with this philosophy 'couse it's much better for the body, for the skin and for your relax. Don't think it's a shy thing: in the north culture it's totally normal and you can find families. The bad thing is that you find...italians. if you hear lots of of noise and people walking around in sauna with swimsuit and t-shirts you can be sure (unfortunately) that they are italians.
Sometimes it can be so easy...it's just the time to read rules..then you can decide to enter or not enter withouth bothering all the other guests.
Anyway, Trentino alto adige is really raccomended for persons that want to do the spa in the correct way and know how to act...for the others..it's better to search another place.
