I wasn't sure what i could find going in Belfast..from one side i obiusvly know of the tensions that are into the city but i also knew that there was a new period of peace into the northern ireland. Well i found a modern city..that is trying to go out from a dark period of dead, murders and violence. And it's a city that is growing up step by step. Still now in Belfast there are area in which (so it has been sayd) a tourist it's better that doesn't go but..there is no war and it's great. It's a city that is trying to enter into the 21th century and i think it can do it easy 'couse there are lots of historical things to visit, and it's going to become a modern city..so ancient and moder can be togheter in this city..withouth forget the past.
I'm just sorry to not have known some "local people"..i'd like to ask them..do u feel Ireland or British? It can seem silly but for me it's not so clear...maybe i'm wrong, or it's just a feeling that i had walking around..but i'm not so sure of how people can think about it..also 'couse the war is over but in the same time it's not so far into the past.
Anyway...this is a tourist site...so what i can say is: Belfast is very fascinating and it's a city that will be more important into the future. I think that if you are in Ireland you'd go there and spend a couple of days into Belfast. I spent just one so i had only a little impression of how the city can be..but i liked what i saw, and i really hope to return one day not far!
There is this clock that remember the more famous "Big Ben" in London..but Belfast has his own things to see and visit.
I'm just sorry that i stayed here for one day trip so i'm sure i missed lots of things..as sayd before, come here for a couple of days not just one, and take your time to visit the city. I'm sure also that the area surrounding Belfast is great, and why don't do it listening some U2 song in your mp3 player?
Into the murales area (that can be reach by bus or by cab) i felt...strange. I saw things that it's like..unbelievable to see into Europe..in this block you can notice the flags of UK close to the flags of Irealand. So you can really feel in the air what Belfast was some years ago. Sure some groups like U2 have wrote about Belfast and also the movies but..beeing here, watching the murales..you really can feel it. I just hope i misunderstood but unfortunately in some areas it seems still so strong the difference between people. So i'm asking..it's just a religion thing or there is something else? Anyway the quarter is a "must see"..even if it has been told to not stop but just pass into it...i think that in a while it'll be just a touristic place like "Berlin wall" so it's better that you hurry if you want to see it and you want feel the same sensations i had.
If some vt firend is going in Belfast and pass in this area, please, let me know if i felt wrong..if it was just a my sensation.
