Kurort Rathen Travel Guide: 23 reviews and 68 photos
Kurort Rathen is located to both sides of the Elbe southeast of Dresden. It is surrounded by beautiful landscape, a region called "Saxon Switzerland".
The small village is a very popular base for tourists, especially for hikers and climbers in Frontier Saxon Switzerland. Some of the most famous places of Saxon Switzerland are to find nearby - see my Must see activity tips.
The surrounding sandstone rocks offer fantastic views across the valley with the Elbe river winding through and the flat-top mountains towering the plains.
Like all beautiful and easy accessible places Rathen is sometimes crowded. But all you have to do is to do some steps away from the busy main street and the major hiking paths - and you will find unspoiled landscape.
Don't forget that most of the surrounding is National Park. Special rules protect vegetation and animals.

Ingo fabulous little page with outstanding photos. I must admit that I haven't heard of Rathen before, but through your photos it looks well worth a sidetrip when the sun shines.
Traumhafte Bilder!!
Looks like another great place for hiking -- not far from Dresden. -- Greetings from chilly Frankfurt am Main.
What a lovely pace & great pics, Ingo ! Kleine Bastei looks great as well !!
Great presentation and winter travelogue! Haha, I see, I have to buy detailed maps of Sachsen before my visit :-)
I can see why this area is so popular with tourists, it's beautiful both in summer & in winter! Your "winter wonderland" travelogue photo is especiallly spectacular!
Rathen was a place we really enjoyed, too - but your off the beaten path tips are fantastic - too bad we missed them, when we visited!!!
Postcard pretty. Perfect for Christmas cards. Gorgeous!
Wow, how beautiful!
