"Spa Town (and more) TEPLICE" Teplice by german_eagle
Teplice Travel Guide: 19 reviews and 37 photos
Teplice is a town with a population of about 50'000. It is located at the foot of the Erzgebirge mountains / Krusne Hory in Northern Bohemia, half way between Prague and Dresden.
The region around Teplice was pretty much influenced by both Czech and German culture as you can still see at many places in the town. Many signs are in German, and many locals speak some German too. English is not very common and this might not change until Teplice gets discovered by other than Czech and German tourists.
Teplice was one of Europe's earliest spa towns. Thanks to the magical effects of the local springs and a lively social life the spa town of Teplice was once referred to as "Little Paris" and the "Salon of Europe". Many prominent figures of international culture, including Goethe, Beethoven, Chopin, Liszt and Wagner, came to Teplice to experience the beneficial effects of the local curative springs.
However, the splendor of past glory has somewhat faded, but the town slowly recovers since the fall of the iron curtain. Many old townhouses were restored, huge investments into the spa hotels were made and the extensive gardens with blooming flowers everywhere are as beautiful as in past times.
My most recent visit was in Sept 2005. I attended some business in Teplice and stayed one night. Although time was somewhat limited I would like to share my observations with you on this page.

One day I shall have to visit a few places in Czech, but then there is soooo much to see in Europe!
Good tips on transport. I was meaning to ask about the column in the center of the square, is this the plague column similar to the columns erected in other parts of Czech republic and slovakia? Is this common in Eatern Germany as well? Best regards from Maryland. Val
This looks like a pretty place to visit!
The castle and church were nice sites and the pictures very good.
Beautiful architecture!
Excellent tips, very useful hotel and transportation info, beautiful pictures!
an excellent page & great pics, Ingo ! Teplice is under-rated by most tourists and that is really a pity !
A fine new page about a place that seems far away, but I was surprised to learn that it is actually just 8 Euros away from Dresden. You took some really good photos just looking in through open doors, even though you weren't allowed inside.
Ingo, fabulous start ...phhheww, I can't believe you stayed in such a posh hotel ...phhheww, it looks like the Russians try to enter Germany from the Czech Republic ....*verybigsmile* ;-)
castle church is great. interesting is there any border on the German-Czech border control? maybe i could steal by to Czech from Germany :-))
