"City of Roses and Other Flora" a Portland Travel Page by goingsolo

May, 2007 was my third visit to Portland and the first time I was able to see something other than its highways. Portland is consistently rated one of the friendliest cities in the U.S., and, living in the one consistently rated as the rudest, that fact alone was enough for me to want to visit. On our one day, hit the major sights, or at least try to, tour, we focused mostly on downtown. We were able to tour the spectacular Japanese Garden, shown in the photo, view the Rose Garden sans roses, and hit a couple of other local spots. The visit was way too brief and, before we knew it, we were back at Portland's excellent airport heading home.

This page is by no means complete, and I hope to return again to browse along the pedestrian friendly downtown, visit the REI store and take in other "must see" sights. But, for now, I can give you a brief overview of some of the hidden gems in this friendly city.
