Taxi stands Limousine / Taxi Review

There's no shortage of taxis on the Vegas Strip, but you don't hail one off the street (or so I was told) Each hotel has a taxi queue where people line up and a hotel bellman signals one of the waiting taxis to pick up the next passenger in line. The bellman then gets a dollar or two for signaling a cab which is sitting right there. Oh, and he also tells the taxi driver where you are going.

Taxi drivers are a wealth of information on the Strip. Most are very friendly, able to navigate the extreme street traffic along Las Vegas Blvd, and will give you, free of charge, a copy of 24/7, a dining and entertainment guide which tells you where to find all the buffets (see restaurant tips.)

One word of caution: riding in taxis from one hotel to the next gets expensive. A trip from the Bellagio to the NY NY, only a couple of blocks down, costs almost $10 (which does not include the bellman's tip for hailing the cab.) Try to walk if possible or use the shuttle system, which is $1.75 per ride.

Pink Jeep Tours - Las Vegas

Pink Jeep Tours

Pink Jeep Tours Bus / Shuttles Review

Pink Jeep tours provided guided tours to Red Rock Canyon and Valley of the Fire State Park. The company will pickup from any Las Vegas hotel. Its a good way to get out and see these great places without having to rent a car of your own.

Monorails Monorails / Train Review

There is a free monorail system between the MGM Grand and Bally's and one connecting the Excalibur, Luxor and Mandalay Bay. The Mirage and Treasure Island run a free monorail between these two hotels as well.

The monorail system was undergoing renovation when I was there. There is a new system in the works, which will extend from Tropicana Avenue to Sahara avenue initially, and is supposed to be expanded to run from Sahara Avennue to downtown.

I read recently that the monorail system has opened that that there is a line running from one end of the Strip to the other for a cost of about $3. That's far cheaper than a cab ride.

The Vegas shuffle Walking Review

Like most things in Vegas, there's a certain pace to the Strip that's unlike anything I've ever seen. I call it the Vegas shuffle for no other reason than the fact that I don't know what else to call it. Hordes of tourists either on sensory overload or gastronomical excess, move very slowly, pausing to point, stare or to photograph anything and everything, They move in all directions, the most common of which is directly in your way. And no matter where you go, there they are.
