Tourist Trap: Shark reef at Mandalay Bay

  • I know some people with disagree, but I have to call this one a tourist trap. For one thing, $16 is overpriced for the few aquariums and exhibits they have here. Also, I've been scuba diving and I've been to Seaworld several times so there was nothing here I hadn't seen before. Maybe that affected my opinion of Shark Reef. After all, the fact that they put this place up in a hotel is impressive.

But I'm still calling it touristy, The again, I really liked the wax museum so take my advice as you see fit. I put some pictures in a travelogue so see for yourself and decide whether you think its worth it.

At Least Do This: Check out the numerous fish, jellyfish and sharks in each section and listen to the audio provided at the entrance. They do provide some limited information on the types of marine life and their environments.
Alternative: I'd head to the wax museum, but that's just me. Or I'd suggest getting $16.00 in quarters and playing video poker. Hey, this is Vegas, There are tons of ways to spend $16. How about another all you can eat buffet?

Ride$: Gondola rides at the Venetian
  • Tip Rating:
  • The Venetian is a beautiful hotel and I love the waterway that runs through it, but paying $15 to ride from one end of the canal to the other and back on board a gondola when you can walk the length of the waterway for free seems like a waste of money to me. Still, lots of people seem to enjoy it.

    Ride$: Eiffel Tower Experience
  • Tip Rating:
  • The Eiffel Tower experience takes you 50 stories up this replica of the Paris landmark to a view of Vegas. The cost is around $15, which is pretty standard for any of the Vegas tourist attractions which require a fee.

At Least Do This: It is a cool replica of the Eiffel Tower in France, but paying money to go to the top seems like a waste of valuable Vegas dollars. Granted its 450 feet up and is probably a memorable view if you're not afraid of heights, but again, there are better ways to spend you $$$ when in Vegas.
Alternative: Walk across the street and see the Bellagio fountains again. Seriously, I think touring the inside of these hotels is a lot more fun than doing the touristy rides and attractions. Hotel Paris has a replica of a Paris street complete with sidewalk cafes and striking architecture. I found that to be far more interesting.

And of course, there's always the video poker machines in the casino.

Drai's isnt a hangout for strippers &men hoping to meet them! its for lovers of house music, the best DJ's,MAGIC! No trendy dummies. We go to Vegas JUST to go to Drai's. It's an icon of Vegas nightlife, my favorite place.

My comment was about the Paris Buffet. I would never go to Vegas without making a visit to this buffet. I go at late breakfast time and eat through lunch. It's like a dining trip to France.
