  • Vegas is a nightlife city. In addition to the bars, clubs and casinos, there are shows for every budget (from the free entertainment to the very very expensive) and interest. The city has lots of adult themed shows and nightclubs, which is probably part of the reason why there are so many bachelor parties in town.

Since the closest I got to one of these shows was Zumanity, which had some nudity but was not risque adult entertainment, I'd suggest looking at 24/7, the free magazine provided to tourists. Every cab driver has copies in their cab and you can probably pick up a copy in stores or on the street as well.

  • Nightlife Spot: Vegas Shows

Vegas is known for, among other things, the shows put on in the hotels. There are live performances by famous singers and comedians, variety and impersonation shows, acrobatics and dance such as Cirque du Soleil's O and other more "adult" themed performances. But seeing a show is part of the true Vegas experience.

This is a great laid back spot at the Bellagio. The outer section of the bar overlooks the casino. Inside, there are tables (a drink minimum, I think) and live music. You can also see the Bellagio fountain show from the table area. The live music is great and its a great place to sit and watch the Bellagio "scene"

Dress Code: Fairly casual. I don't know if they'll let you in in shorts, but plenty of people in the casino were casually dressed and had no trouble getting in.

    Bellagio Hotel & Casino: Caramel

  • Nightlife Spot: Bellagio Hotel and Casino

Caramel is the Bellagio's lounge, which becomes a nightclub on the weekends. There's no live music here, at least not on the night I went, and the atmosphere is less laid back than the Fontana Bar. But its a good place to grab a drink before heading somewhere else.

One of those "pick me, pick me" places we have so many of here on South Beach. Its a cool club, but its the stuffy bouncer at the door, dress the part, look the part, type of places.

Dress Code: You have to be dressed up to get past the bouncer. No jeans or sneakers. I'm not sure what the specific dress code is, but in Miami we call it "South Beach black."

Cirque du Soleil: Cirque du Soleil's O

  • Nightlife Spot: O by Cirque du Soleil

I'd heard so much about this show before the trip that I was afraid it would not live up to the hype. But it did. The acrobatics were amazing. There's so much going on at once its impossible to see it all in one show, but definitely give it a shot.

One piece of advice: get the best seats you can. I bypassed the floor level seats in favor of the lower deck after being assured I had great seats. I did not. I was one of the back rows of this section and had trouble seeing a lot of what was going on. Its a $25 difference in price between the floor seats and one level up. You don't want to miss a minute of this show. Its worth the money.

On trip 2, I decided to go back and see the show again. Sitting in the third row, for $25 more, was a huge difference. One word of advice: those really concerned about being in the "splash zone" should avoid the front few rows in the center. Those folks looked as though they were getting soaked. Its better to sit on the side as its splash free and you won't miss anyrhing.

There's so much going on at once onstage that its like watching 2 or 3 shows at a time. The acrobatics in this show take center stage, and for good reason. They are jaw droppingly impressive. O truly lives up to the hype.

Dress Code: There did not seem to be much of one. I'd heard that you can pretty much wear anything, but I didn't see people in jeans or shorts so I'm not sure.

    Cirque du Soleil: Zumanity
  • Tip Rating:
  • Nightlife Spot: Cirque du Soleil

Described as "the other side of Cirque du Soleil", I was unsure what to expect of this one. There is some nudity but the show is tasteful and pretty tame. Its actually pretty humorous too. The Cirque performers are great as well. I think you have to be 18 and over to get in, but they may allow people younger if accompanied by an adult.

Its worth seeing, but if you can only see one show, get tickets to "O".

Mysterie is another of the Cirque du Soleil performances. The show is performed at the Treasure Island Hotel and has over 70 singers, dancers and acrobats.

The Mirage Hotel & Casino: Danny Gans Show
  • Tip Rating:
  • Nightlife Spot: Mirage

Danny Gans has a popular impersonation show at the Mirage. I didn't get to see it, but heard good things about it. Its supposed to be very funny. But, like most Vegas shows, tickets usually sell out in advance,

Eating / Drinking: La Playa Lounge at Harrah's
  • Tip Rating:
  • Nightlife Spot: La Playa

La Playa is a tropical themed place where they serve what we refer to in Miami as "tourist drinks"- those fruity pina colada-esque concoctions in a tall glass with an umbrella stuck in it.
