"Indiana's Dunes" Indiana Dunes State Park by goingsolo

Indiana Dunes State Park Travel Guide: 34 reviews and 90 photos

The Indiana Dunes are located near Lake Michigan along the Illinois and Indiana border. The dunes rise over a hundred feet above the virtually flat landscape and the combination of sand dunes and beachfront create a great many activities for residents of both states. On a weekend day, you'll find many people frolicking in or near the cool water or scampering up the steep dunes for a better view or a bit of heartrate raising activity.

The tiny Indiana Dunes State Park has a handful of trails that allow you to climb the dunes. The most popular attraction here is the beach along the shore of Lake Michigan. The nearby Indiana Dunes National Recreation Area has even more opportunities to explore this unusual area.

Since both areas are close together, it is easy to visit the two on the same day, which is what I did. Since there is no separate page for the National Recreation Area, I combined the two on this page.
