"Diving and drinking" Key Largo by goingsolo

Key Largo is the largest of the Florida Keys and the closest Key to South Florida. Its not as popular as Key West or Islamorada, which is well known for its sportsfishing, but its proximity to the mainland makes it a convenient destination in its own right.

Key Largo has some of the coral reefs at John Pennykamp State Park, some decent resorts and some nice restaurants. The area is worth a stop in itself and, if you're pressed for time, its a place to experience what the Keys have to offer.

Water sports and liquid libation are what the Keys are all about. Unless you like fishing, because there's plenty of that as well, although Islamorada is more the place for that. There's also boating, jet skiing and more drinking!

• Cons:Hot in the summer, crowded in the "winter"
• In a nutshell:A great escape from Miami for a day or two.
