"Ridgway" Ridgway by goingsolo

Ridgway Travel Guide: 21 reviews and 53 photos

Ridgway is a very small western town located 12 miles north of Ouray along Hwy 550, known for the fact that John Wayne's movie, True Grit, was filmed here. The True Grit restaurant has lots of John Wayne memorabilia, which makes it a very popular stop.

Ridgway State Park is unusual in that it has a man made beach and marina. Any beach or marina would be unusual in Colorado, but this small park, with its great views of the Sneffels Range and the San Juan mountains, is a nice stop on your journey to or from Southwest Colorado.

Pros and Cons
  • Pros:A nice place to stop for a picnic or to see John Wayne memorabilia
  • Cons:Little else to do except head south to Ouray or west to Telluride
  • In a nutshell:Great for a short hike and a meal.
