Squaw Peak mountain, which borders Phoenix, has several great hikes. The Summit trail is 1.2 miles but very steep (elevation gain of 2,600 ft); theres also a Circumference Trail (3.74 mi) around squaw peak and several others in the area. The trail to the Squaw Peak summit is a pretty tough mile. But, from atop, the city of Phoenix is visible with the Superstitions in the background. Its a pretty striking example of the beauty of the desert surrounding the oasis that is the city.

Phoenix/Scottsdale have more resorts than just about any city. In addition to golf, great food and expensive rooms, each of these resorts has its own day spa, like the one at the Phoenician shown in the picture. Highly recommended.

The desert botanical garden is a 145 acre garden in Papago Park features thousands of plant species from Arizona and around the world. It is worth a stop for those with a free day in the Phoenix area, especially if you haven't been to Tucson and visited the Sonora Desert Museum. The Phoenix botanical garden is one of the largest collections of desert plants and is amazing in its diversity and beauty. Much like the Tucson Sonora Desert Museum, the botanicl garden has a series of trails which wind around particular areas set aside to showcase particular aspects of desert plant life, i.e., wildflowers, cacti, etc. Walking along the trails in this mostly outdoor attraction, you'll see some great views of the desert and the Superstition Mountains.
