Christina's: Al fresco dining in Greektown

Restaurant Name: Christina's
We ate in Greektown twice over our weekend in Toronto, once with the large VT group and then Rob and I returned to have dinner there Sunday night. I really liked Toronto's Greektown area, it seemed very safe so we walked all the way up and down the stretch of Danforth where the restaurants are before settling on Christina's which had a nice outdoor patio with an awning which was nice when it started drizzling later in the meal. Our server was extremely friendly and efficient and I think he even smiled when he said Opa! with the saganacki unlike the dour waiters in Chicago's Greektown :-) I'd definitely revisit this restaurant should I visit Toronto again.
Favorite Dish: We started off with a couple of appetizers, mine was saganacki or flaming cheese which they light on fire at your table. I think Rob ordered the taramosalata, a red caviar dip served with pita, both of them were good. My entree was a chicken pita served with fries which was also good.

Bright Pearl: Dim sum in Chinatown

Restaurant Name: Bright Pearl
Ellen (ellielou) thankfully did all the research for Saturday lunch and after perusing MANY different sources including Chowhound, picked Bright Pearl for dim sum. A very important factor in this decision was the necessity of having little ladies pushing carts to serve the food, not all dim sum is served that way but it was here. The 2nd floor dining room is huge but we had no problem getting a table for the 7 of us on a Saturday afternoon around 12:30
Favorite Dish: What's nice about having a group of people for dim sum is that you get to try lots of different things and try lots of different things we did. We tried bunches of different things, lots of dumplings, lots of green leafy things (which of course I didn't eat!).

Le Papillon: Great place to have a VT meet

Restaurant Name: Le Papillon
Le Papillon was the well chosen restaurant selected for the 2nd night of the massive September 2005 VT meeting and they handled the crowd quite well, the service was organized, the bills correct, people at the same table got served at approximately the same time. We had our own space, not entirely blocked off from the rest of the patrons but secluded enough that we didn't bother anyone (well, except for the "hot guy" that some of the VT ladies dragged off the street and he didn't appear to be complaining!)
Favorite Dish: Although there were other dishes offered, the main offering on the menu was crepes. I started with a savoury crepe which was very tasty and filling but I just couldn't pass on the dessert crepes, the Crepe Banana Royale, bananas, almonds, ice cream, chocolate rum sauce and whipped cream, was divine and enough to serve two.

Kaspian Mon Mar 31, 2008 23:03 UTC Yep!! I snagged it! $605 ($350 + taxes) return to Frankfurt on the fabled "AirTransat" which, according to you, doesn't exist. Now if you really think about it... You've seen me in Europe before so I must be getting there somehow. >:D | SWFC_Fan Tue Mar 18, 2008 19:40 UTC Chinese food AND Greek food...Toronto is foodie heaven! :-) Niagara Falls looked amazing with the snow and ice, but the "Maid of the Mist" boats weren't running...so I'll have to return there one summer! | dejavu2gb Wed Nov 1, 2006 13:22 UTC Nice Toronto page... I did not see any tips on The CN Tower... or am I being blind again. I so want to visit toronto cos it looks stunning, and yes... also for a little bit more blue on my map... hehehe | deecat Mon Mar 6, 2006 16:28 UTC Looks like this was a great VT time, regardless of the weather. Your restaurant tips are excellent. I also always enjoy your hotel writeups...detailed and helpful. I smiled a good deal while viewing the travelogues. |
