I had never been to Texas, the 2nd largest state in the US behind Alaska, so when Mark (ATXtraveler) announced that he was having a meeting in September, I decided to get a little more US blue on my map and meet a couple of the Texas VTers that I have been friends with for awhile. |
| | Mark (ATXtraveler) set up a full weekend of very Texan activities for the VT members including meals from each of the area's specialties-steak, Tex Mex and BBQ-a vist to the rodeo and the cattle drive plus as an added bonus, many of the museums were free that weekend. Thanks a bunch to Mark for organizing all of it and getting my butt down to Texas finally! It was great fun meeting two VT friends, VeronicaG and ATXtraveler, plus making new friends and meeting some of the local Texas members. VT even sent us some swag, a nice VT tote bag, some stickers, pens and luggage tags. |
| | Unfortunately, I was a little out of sorts for most of the weekend, a head cold prevented me from doing my usual trip preparation before I left and even worse made my ears clog up after 2 plane landings which made for an interesting dinner the 1st night as I could barely hear. To make matters worse my friend Rob and his mom missed their flight and most of the VT meeting and a false fire alarm robbed me of sleep on my 1st day and an uncomfortable bed the 2nd day. But even with all that, I had a very enjoyable visit thanks to Mark and Sarah who made sure I still got to all of the events on Friday and fetched me from the airport and Veronica and Jim who gave me an unscheduled tour of Ft. Worth and Maria who didn't mind me tagging along. Clearly there's a lot more to Fort Worth than what I saw, you should check out ATXtraveler or VeronicaG's pages for a more thorough local perspective. |

MommaCarroll Wed Oct 29, 2008 15:35 UTC I agree about Joe T's. The food was nothing to write home about, but the friends made it better! | LoriPori Mon Oct 27, 2008 12:07 UTC What a fun page Kristi. Enjoyed reading about your weekend - restaurants and the long-horn steer especially. And a cowgirl museum - what a hoot! | Maria250 Tue Oct 7, 2008 15:39 UTC Now that's a great new (profil) pic ;-)) | Kaspian Mon Oct 6, 2008 16:54 UTC Congrats on having one of the only post-meet Fort Worth pages! Looks like it was fun--wish I could've gone. (It would have been another excuse to wear my big new hat.) |
