"Fall foliage festival" Jim Thorpe by Dabs

Jim Thorpe Travel Guide: 33 reviews and 115 photos

My brother in law, who defected from Indiana to Pennsylvania a couple of years ago, just loves the town of Jim Thorpe and takes all of the visiting relatives to see it, including me on my recent trip with my mother in law. It's a lovely little town, nestled in the Pocono mountains.

I'm sure you are wondering how a town came to be named after Jim Thorpe but you are just going to have to read my tips (coming soon) to find that out :-)

I've read that the son is now suing to get his dad buried in his own home town in Oklahoma.

I wonder if they will name a town for Ian Thorpe somewhere close to make it interesting!

I suppose if the town's original name was "Mauch Chunk" then it's not a bad idea to rename it after a famous athlete. Maybe some day an Amish village will sell out and rename itself VirtualTouristdotcom.

This is great stuff, Kristi...what a reason to name a town! I would have been upset if I could not have a grilled cheese also...love them.
