Getting TO/AROUND: Although cabs might be slightly quicker, the shuttles are cheaper and almost as fast. There's a whole row of them when you get to where the ground transport is located, they seemed to range in price from $5.50 to $7 one way. I selected the 1st one I came across, I think it was called Ritz Transport, for $6 and they left almost immediately and dropped me at the MGM Grand. I was surprised at how close the Strip was to the airport, it couldn't have been more than a 10 minute trip, you can see the strip when you leave the airport area.

Getting TO/AROUND: On the way back to the airport they told me it would be a little more difficult to get a shuttle and I wanted to get out of the heat so I got a taxi at the MGM Grand, the closest stop on the monorail to the airport. With tip the ride cost me $10 which sounded about right based on what I'd read. It's a very quick ride, no more than 10 minutes.

Getting TO/AROUND: When I asked at the information desk about the best way for me to get around Las Vegas with my rather cumbersome aircast, they suggested the monorail which goes more or less from one end of the strip to the other. I picked it up at the MGM Grand, from where the shuttle dropped me off it was just a short walk. I took it all the way to the end of the line at the Sahara and then stayed on to go back to Harrah's. Which casinos/attractions are closest to which station is well marked inside the cars. Although they seem to tout it as a benefit, the monorail runs on the backside of the resorts which is great if you want to walk through the entire resort, not so great if you are limping in an aircast and just want to get to the street side. The stop at Bally's seemed to be particularly far away from the street side but I guess at least it's air conditioned! You can buy a single ride for $5, if you just want to have a look at the resorts from the monorail there is no need to get off the monorail to make the return trip. An all day pass was $9, same as two rides. You can buy the pass from right outside the monorail stations.

Getting TO/AROUND: One of the reasons I contemplated not leaving the airport was tales of 2 hour security lines, I suppose I could have played my injury card and called for a wheelchair had that happened but it turned out security was only about 10 minutes when I went through on a Tuesday, I think Sunday is probably the worst day of the week with all the weekend visitors heading home. I had a connecting flight, arriving into D and leaving from C, in order to move between the two terminals without having to check back through security, check with the TSA personnel BEFORE leaving the secured area and they might let you through, they didn't check to see if I had a boarding pass or even an itinerary which I thought a bit odd, why not just open it up then?
