Las Vegas Warnings Or Dangers
Sort by: Most Recent | Best Rated | Author's Order

Weather Conditions: Hot, hot, hot!
  • Tip Rating:
  • I hadn't planned on leaving the airport on my layover so I didn't pay any attention to the weather before I left. When the pilot announced it was going to be 100, I laughed and thought well, at least I'm not going out in that. Then I changed my mind and went out in it anyways and the sun and heat is brutal at midday, good thing that you're only outside for a short period of time between casinos and resorts.

If you come here during the summer, a hotel pool is a must, especially if you have kids. i saw several resorts with them as I took the monorail up and down the strip and they were packed with families trying to escape the heat.

Warnings Or Dangers: Nothing cheap about Vegas anymore
  • Tip Rating:
  • The 1st time I visited Las Vegas it had a reputation for being a cheap vacation, so cheap in fact that when my friend won a trip to see the Chicago Bears play the LA Rams, they overnighted us in Vegas both coming and going, presumably because it was cheaper. $5.99 prime rib dinners, dirt cheap hotel/air packages. Those days are gone unless you are a high roller/frequent visitor and get comped. Hotels are expensive, food is expensive. I think people like the buffets because maybe they can skip a meal or two if they pig out at the buffets.

Entertainment has always been expensive, I was shocked at how much they wanted for Pointer Sister tickets back in the 1980s and I'm equally shocked now. The highest price ticket to see Blue Man Group in Boston is $58. The highest price ticket in Chicago is $59. The highest price ticket in NYC is $78. Las Vegas? A whopping $121! I assume the show is very similar, I've seen the one in Chicago and there's no way I'd pay $121 to see it.

Celine Dion? You'll fork over anywhere from $205-$319 for her best seats. Does she really have that many people willing to pay that kind of money to see her? Really? Or are those all comped seats?

Viva Lost Wages! No wonder the Simpsons wanted Springfield to get the Monorail so bad!

Yeah, but I want to see the Canyon and the Nevada desert in this lifetime. Might as well do it while our dollar's got some value, right? :D

Interesting perspectives of Las Vegas. Certainly food for thought. Thanks. Ann, The Travel Slut
