The adult Disneyland

by Dabs - last update: Jul 31, 2007

When I booked my recent flight to Maui, the cheapest tickets were routed through Las Vegas with the journey there having an almost 8 hour layover so I selected that one so I could see how Las Vegas had changed since my last visit in the late 1980s, after they decided to turn Las Vegas into a family destination. I made this decision before I sprained my ankle, it didn't seem like such a good idea after I did that!!!
I resigned myself to stay at the airport, how much fun could I have wandering around in 100 degree heat with a cast up to my knee? But then I inadvertantly passed through security, I couldn't get my boarding pass because ATA wasn't open yet so I headed to the information counter and they told me how to make the most of my layover in Vegas.
I can honestly say after my visit that Vegas just isn't my cup of tea. I don't like to gamble, I work way too hard for my money just to fork it over to the casinos. I don't like high end shopping. I don't like buffets all that much. And while Vegas has been spruced up A LOT since my last visit in the 1980s, it now reminds me of EPCOT in Orlando, maybe for someone who hadn't just stood in the real St. Mark's Square in Venice it might be kind of cool to see the Venetian or if you've never seen the Eiffel Tower it might be cool to see that but for me it just wasn't a thrill.

Viva Lost Wages! No wonder the Simpsons wanted Springfield to get the Monorail so bad!

Yeah, but I want to see the Canyon and the Nevada desert in this lifetime. Might as well do it while our dollar's got some value, right? :D
