"The adult Disneyland" Las Vegas by Dabs

When I booked my recent flight to Maui, the cheapest tickets were routed through Las Vegas with the journey there having an almost 8 hour layover so I selected that one so I could see how Las Vegas had changed since my last visit in the late 1980s, after they decided to turn Las Vegas into a family destination. I made this decision before I sprained my ankle, it didn't seem like such a good idea after I did that!!!
I resigned myself to stay at the airport, how much fun could I have wandering around in 100 degree heat with a cast up to my knee? But then I inadvertantly passed through security, I couldn't get my boarding pass because ATA wasn't open yet so I headed to the information counter and they told me how to make the most of my layover in Vegas.
I can honestly say after my visit that Vegas just isn't my cup of tea. I don't like to gamble, I work way too hard for my money just to fork it over to the casinos. I don't like high end shopping. I don't like buffets all that much. And while Vegas has been spruced up A LOT since my last visit in the 1980s, it now reminds me of EPCOT in Orlando, maybe for someone who hadn't just stood in the real St. Mark's Square in Venice it might be kind of cool to see the Venetian or if you've never seen the Eiffel Tower it might be cool to see that but for me it just wasn't a thrill.
- Pros:Non stop entertainment
- Cons:Expensive
- In a nutshell:Not my cup of tea

Viva Lost Wages! No wonder the Simpsons wanted Springfield to get the Monorail so bad!
Yeah, but I want to see the Canyon and the Nevada desert in this lifetime. Might as well do it while our dollar's got some value, right? :D
Interesting perspectives of Las Vegas. Certainly food for thought. Thanks. Ann, The Travel Slut
oh, come on, only 8 hours and you trash the place! :)
Great that you were able to hobble your way around without too much stress! Thanks for the 'inside' story - I've grown to dislike Disneyish theme parks over the years and I had suspected Vegas was much the same. I'm now glad I've not made it there yet!
Ah yes - the $5.99 prime rib - I remember it well. I've heard that Vegas has become soo expensive. I don't have any desire to go back there any time soon.
LOL, Kristi. First good page I have seen on a place you didn't want to go anyway ;-) Will be gone next week so have a Happy Birthday without me.
Celine Dion??? MUst ALL be comp seats ;) Looking forward to a BRIEF visit here just to see what it's like, but 1 night enough for us!!!
Enjoyed your "take" on Vegas. It certainly has become expensive in the last few years. Can't believe you walked so much.
Nice quicky visit of Las Vegas. The only time I was there was 40 years ago, when I was 22. Vegas is not my cup of tea either, but it would be interesting to return and see all the changes. Like you, I would have to be on my way to a "real" place.
