When EmilieNoelle was planning this meeting she warned us the Portsmouth lodging could be on the expensive side, even the Motel 6 exceeded $80 per night. Since I was going to be picking up a car, this hotel made a lot of sense to me, inexpensive for the area, free parking and not that far from town (2.7 miles according to their website), it took about 10 minutes by car. That is when we weren't driving around lost! It's cheaper to book on the internet and weekday rates are cheaper than weekend.
Unique Qualities: The room was clean and comfortable, very basic. No toiletries besides soap, no hair dryer in the room although I understand you could get one from the front desk. The bedspreads are rather garish, a bright electric blue with the Motel 6 logo worked into it. There is an outdoor swimming pool but it was already closed for the season. There are vending machines in the lobby and on each floor but if you need to get sodas and snacks there is also a Shaw's grocery store about a minute away by car. Free coffee in the lobby. One of our group managed to get a room with a refrigerator and microwave for an extra $3 per night but not all rooms have it so ask in advance if it's important to you.

Stephen-KarenConn Wed Apr 16, 2008 21:12 UTC Looks like you had fun in Portsmouth, and saw a lot too. But over $80 for a Motel 6! I remember when they were all only six dollars. Remembering such stuff is one of the curses of growing older. | deecat Wed Nov 14, 2007 10:05 UTC Enjoyed updates, especially about the "spiffy prison and Strawberry Banke. [And new travelogue with details].Great photos and explanations of the VT activities. Certainly fun to finally "see" Yubert. | LoriPori Tue Oct 16, 2007 11:47 UTC That sure was a fun VT meet eh Kristi! And see - the Motel 6 wasn't that bad. And yes, it sure was nice having a mini-fridge and microwave for the weekend. | yooperprof Thu Oct 11, 2007 19:32 UTC OMG! A photo of Yubert! I hope this proves once and for all that he and I are not the same person! |
