Ogunquit Travel Guide: 98 reviews and 150 photos

Ogunquit translates to "beautiful place by the sea" in the language of the Native Americans, the Abenak Tribe, that inhabited this area. It was the perfect spot to spend our last night on our 5 day New Hampshire/Maine trip. We stayed at the Gazebo, a lovely B&B, walked along the beautiful white sand Ogunquit Beach, did a little shopping and had two awesome meals in nearby Wells . I could easily see using this town as a several night base to see the nearby coastal cities in Maine or Portsmouth, New Hampshire.

Everyone we encountered here that lived here was extremely friendly, from our hosts Scott and Bruce at the Gazebo Inn, to the staff at the Maine Diner and Fisherman's Catch.

We somehow missed two of the highlights of Ogunquit, the Marginal Way, a 1 1/4 mile paved footpath that runs from Oarweed Cove to Ogunquit Beach and Perkins Cove although we did poke around in some of the shops downtown. Always save something for the next time!

That lobster and the lobster roll make my mouth water, and the B&B looks wonderful. A reason for us to go back to Maine someday.

That really is a beautiful looking beach! Yes, Old Orchard Beach has been famous for decades as the place where Quebecois flock to get their taste of the Atlantic! Delicious restaurant tips!
