"The Hillside Strangler" Hillside by Dabs

Hillside Travel Guide: 2 reviews and 14 photos

Visitors might be tempted to think that the western suburb of Hillside has a serial killer running amok but locals, especially those who commute to work on highway 88 or 290, know that the Hillside Strangler is a reference to the junction of two highways in Hillside where the merging traffic caused a bottleneck and you were almost sure to be stalled in traffic.

A reconstruction of the highway moved the problem a little further east so I don't think Hillside gets mentioned anymore on the daily traffic reports. If you are unfortunate enough to be on 290 during rush hour heading into the city, keep your eyes peeled for signs for Austin Blvd. where an extra lane is added and traffic usually starts flowing again.

My reason for creating a Hillside page is to mention a fabulous restaurant, Epicurean, a Hungarian restaurant owned by the original owner of Paprikash in Chicago which is now regrettably closed.
