San Diego

Panda at the San Diego Zoo (Oct 2008)
San Diego is one of my favorite US cities, I've been there three times now, twice in 2008, and could easily go back and spend more time there. It's a terrific place to take a family vacation, there's one of the best zoos in the US, Sea World, the San Diego Wild Animal Park, not to mention the gorgeous beaches, Balboa Park, Old Town and a bunch of museums that I've not had the chance to visit because the weather was just too wonderful to be inside on all of my visits.

Don't underestimate the amount of time you can spend in San Diego, I could easily find enough to amuse me for a week or more.
La Jolla (Oct 2008)
My most recent visit to San Diego was in October 2008 with my husband, we decided to add on a couple of days in San Diego before heading back to Los Angeles for my Grandma's 100th birthday celebration. If you hit traffic right and keep to the major highways, San Diego is only about 2 hours from Los Angeles. If you hit rush hour traffic or take the more scenic route of the coastal highway, it can easily extend to 3 or more hours.

We headed to the San Diego Zoo on Friday and stayed there for almost the whole day, heading over to Balboa Park for a look around before heading back to Old Town for dinner. Saturday we meandered up the coast, stopping in La Jolla to see the seals at the Children's Pool, had a nice walk along the coast before heading to Point Loma Seafood for lunch and then a leisurely drive back up the coastal highway back to LA.
Desert Garden, Balboa Park (April 2008)

April 2008

In April 2008, I headed down to San Diego on my own for a couple of days, spending the 1st day doing part of the 59 mile scenic drive including stops at La Jolla and Cabrillo National Park and dinner in Old Town, the 2nd day I visited Coronado and the Gaslamp District before having dinner and a stroll through Old Town, the 3rd day I visited Balboa Park before heading back to LA via part of historic highway 101.

I feel like that polar bear looks right now. My son lives across the street from Balboa Park. Great spot.

Nice updates to your SD page. I'm totally procrastinating today. It's bad.

Wonderfully detailed tips and great photos Kristi - an excellent page! I was interested to see the Stick style Sherman-Gilbert House having seen similar in Cape May, and the Gaslight Quarter and coastline look well worth the trip alone
